About Buckinghamshire County Council.

Bucks County Council is based at County Hall, Aylesbury and has area offices in Amersham, Beaconsfield, High Wycombe and Winslow. Many staff are based in schools, libraries and social services establishments throughout the County. For a map of the County click here http://www.buckscc.gov.uk/find_us.stm

The current challenges for local government are enormous, not only because of the impact of legislation, but also because of the demands of increasingly sophisticated consumers, the implications of new technology and the range of partnerships that need to be supported from parish councils to regional assemblies.

To succeed in meeting these challenges we have implemented a "whole council" business like approach, with greater emphasis on working collectively within and across all our services.

Buckinghamshire operates a Leader and Cabinet structure supported by our top management team of Strategic Managers, working across a range of service areas to turn policy into action. (Hyperlink to structural charts to be inserted)

The Overall Aims for Buckinghamshire County Council, 2001-2004 are:
1. To be a modern performing council which delivers high quality services, affordable to the Council taxpayer.
2. To work in partnership with others to secure integrated public services which meet the needs of our individual customers.
3. To improve the quality of life in the County and strike the right balance between encouraging prosperity and protecting the environment.
4. To be open and accountable: to consult and listen.
5. To lead and act for the well being of the whole community.

The Service Aims are:
6. To meet the assessed care needs of individual adults promptly and effectively within available resources.
7. To promote and facilitate the delivery of public services tailored to the needs of the local communities.
8. To improve the care, health and education of vulnerable children, including those with special needs.
9. To raise pupils' achievement by challenging and supporting all schools within the County's successful selective education system.
10. To integrate our planning and transportation services to support appropriate development within the County and enable people and goods to move safely and efficiently.
11. To continue delivering and adopting innovative ways of supporting services.

The County Council is committed to providing the best quality services for the people who live, work in and visit the County. It is clear about its leadership role within the community and the importance of representing the views of Buckinghamshire at a regional, national and European level.
